It has always been said that the home is one of the biggest investments you can make in a lifetime. For this reason, most people will have their dream home as an ultimate achievement, if they were able to have it built. And with the passing of time, homeowners have also made it a point to carry out home improvement projects to continuously update the house, increase its value and make it more appealing to its occupants and guests. When it comes to building the home from scratch or improving the existing one, the flooring is always an area that needs attention. This is because it is the first thing that you notice in a house; it covers the biggest area; and it receives the most pressure. There are many flooring options to choose from, with the tile flooring being one of the most popular. It is safe to assume that every person who is gearing up for home construction has the tiles as one of the top choices. There are several reasons to this. One is that they can instantly enhance the aesthetic value of the home. Tile flooring is available in a wide variety of designs or patterns, colors and even texture, making it easy for you to pick one that can add beauty to your home.

In addition, tiles are durable. They can withstand the heavy traffic and weight of furnishings and fixtures. They don't get scratched and rarely will they get cracked. This makes tile flooring a good investment. Add to this the fact that many varieties of tiles are easy on the budget unlike plank hardwood flooring. There may be high-end tiles that cost more. It would all depend on your taste and preference. But of course, if you're on a budget, you will not be left without a choice. Another reason for the popularity and practicality of tiles is the easy installation process it requires. If you are dealing with a home improvement project, you can actually consider doing it by yourself. This can save you a lot of money. On the other hand, should you opt to get someone to do the job for you, it won't cost you that much, considering that the project may take a shorter time to complete because it is easy to do.

Furthermore, tile flooring is easy to clean and maintain. Unlike rustic hardwood flooring, there is no special cleaning solution required nor do you need anything to make it shine. The cleaning process would usually involve a mild cleansing solution and a sponge mop. Spills or dirt can just be wiped dry with ordinary cloth. This saves you a lot of time and money, two of the most precious commodities at present. Repair works can also be accomplished without much complexity. You can just remove the damaged tile and replace it with a new one. There are many places to look at for tiles. This includes the brick and mortar home stores and hardware stores. You can also shop online but make sure you know how to do it the right way to avoid pitfalls that might cause you troubles and cost you money.

Both rustic hardwood flooring and plank hardwood flooring might possibly be way off your budget, aside from the fact that they also cost a lot to maintain. With this in mind, tile flooring becomes your best option if you wish to come up with a home having not only an eye-catching floor but one that is easy to maintain as well.

(AP) ? Filmmaker George Lucas on Friday named veteran producer Kathleen Kennedy as his co-chair and successor at the iconic film studio he founded four decades ago.

Kennedy and Lucas will serve as board co-chairs at Lucasfilm Ltd. as the "Star Wars" creator moves forward with his retirement plans.

Lucas, 68, will continue as CEO and work with Kennedy as she transitions into her new role at Lucasfilm, the San Francisco-based company said.

The legendary filmmaker said he chose Kennedy as his successor because he was looking for "someone with great creative passion and proven leadership abilities, but also someone who loves movies."

"I've spent my life building Lucasfilm, and as I shift my focus into other directions, I wanted to make sure it was in the hands of someone equipped to carry my vision into the future," Lucas said in a statement.

In recent months, Lucas has told reporters he plans to move away from producing big-budget movies so he can focus on smaller, art-house films.

Kennedy will step down from her role at The Kennedy/Marshall Co. and shift responsibilities to her partner Frank Marshall. Together they have produced Academy Award-nominated films such as "War Horse," ''The Adventures of Tintin," ''The Sixth Sense" and "Sea Biscuit."

Over the past three decades, Kennedy has worked with Steven Spielberg to produce blockbuster films such as "E.T.," ''Schindler's List," and the "Indiana Jones" and "Jurassic Park" franchises.

Kennedy, 58, said she feels fortunate that Lucas will work with her for the "next year or two" as she moves into her new job.

"It is nice to have Yoda by your side," Kennedy said in a statement. "George and I have talked about the enormous opportunities that lie ahead for the company, and as George moves towards retirement I am honored that he trusts me with taking care of the beloved film franchises."

Since Lucas founded Lucasfilm in 1971, it has grown into an international entertainment company that produces movies and television shows, designs interactive software, and provides visual effects and audio post-production services.

Nokia PureView 808 is running 124 hours late, due in India June 5th

A countdown timer has appeared at an official-looking Indian PureView site, indicating that the 41-megapixel camera (with a twist of smartphone) should arrive in that country on June 5th. The last we heard it was scheduled for initial release in India and Russia sometime in May, but being late is surely okay when you give a firm ETA.

Radioactive tuna travels from Japan to US faster than wind

Low levels of nuclear radiation from the Fukushima power plant have turned up in 15 bluefin tuna caught off San Diego. The fish is not harmful to humans, say researchers.

Low levels of nuclear radiation from the tsunami-damaged Fukushima power plant have turned up in bluefin tuna off the California coast, suggesting that these fish carried radioactive compounds across the Pacific Ocean faster than wind or water can.

Small amounts of cesium-137 and cesium-134 were detected in 15 tuna caught near San Diego in August 2011, about four months after these chemicals were released into the water off Japan's east coast, scientists reported on Monday.

That is months earlier than wind and water currents brought debris from the plant to waters off Alaska and the U.S. Pacific Northwest.

The amount of radioactive cesium in the fish is not thought to be damaging to people if consumed, the researchers said in a study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Without making a definitive judgment on the safety of the fish, lead author Daniel Madigan of Stanford University's Hopkins Marine Station noted that the amount of radioactive material detected was far less than the Japanese safety limit.

"I wouldn't tell anyone what's safe to eat or what's not safe to eat," Madigan said in a telephone interview. "It's become clear that some people feel that any amount of radioactivity, in their minds, is bad and they'd like to avoid it. But compared to what's there naturally ... and what's established as safety limits, it's not a large amount at all."

He said the scientists found elevated levels of two radioactive isotopes of the element cesium: cesium 137, which was present in the eastern Pacific before the

Fukushima Daiichi disaster in the spring of 2011; and cesium 134, which is produced only by human activities and was not present before the earthquake and tsunami hit the Japanese plant.

Because cesium 134 is generated only by human activities - nuclear power plants and weapons - and there was none in the Pacific for several years before the Fukushima accident, they reckoned that any cesium 134 they found in tuna off California had to come from Fukushima.

SWIMMING THROUGH CESIUM
There was about five times the background amount of cesium 137 in the bluefin tuna they tested, but that is still a tiny quantity, Madigan said: 5 becquerels instead of 1 becquerel. (It takes 37 billion becquerels to equal 1 curie; for context, a pound of uranium-238 has 0.00015 curies of radioactivity, so one becquerel would be a truly miniscule proportion.)

The researchers figured that the elevated levels of cesium 137 and all of the cesium 134 they detected came from Fukushima because of the way bluefin tuna migrate across the Pacific.

Bluefin tuna spawn only in the western Pacific, off the coasts of Japan and the Philippines. As young fish, some migrate east to the California coast, where upwelling ocean water brings lots of food for them and their prey. They get to these waters as juveniles or adolescents, and remain there, fattening up.

Judging by the size of the bluefin tuna they sampled - they averaged about 15 pounds (6 kg) - the researchers knew these were young fish that had left Japanese water about a month after the accident.

Most of the radiation was released over a few days in April 2011, and unlike some other compounds, radioactive cesium does not quickly sink to the sea bottom but remains dispersed in the water column, from the surface to the ocean floor.

Fish can swim right through it, ingesting it through their gills, by taking in seawater or by eating organisms that have already taken it in, Madigan said.

Bluefin tuna typically have low levels of naturally occurring radioactive material, such as potassium 40, which was present in the world's oceans long before human beings walked the Earth.

Compared to these natural levels of radioactivity, the amount contributed by Fukushima raised the level about 3 percent, Madigan said.
He said there were probably much higher levels of cesium 134 present in bluefin tuna off Japan soon after the accident, as much as 40 to 50 percent higherthan normal. Cesium 134 decays quickly, with a half-life of two years. Bluefin tuna excrete it on a daily basis and it also gets diluted in their bodies as they grow.

Sherry Lansing: Separating Fact From Fiction: Why You Should Vote 'Yes' on Prop 29

On June 5, Californians will vote on Proposition 29, which, if passed, will place a $1 per pack tax on cigarettes. If you've turned on the TV lately, you've probably heard of Prop 29, because Big Tobacco has spent $40 million to try to defeat it. Why? Because every person -- every child -- that turns away from smoking pulls money from the pockets of the Big Tobacco industry.

There's still so much we don't know about cancer, but there are a few things we know for sure: one is that smoking causes cancer and that it is the leading cause of preventable death worldwide. Prop 29 is projected to save more than 104,000 smokers from an early death, and more than 228,000 kids from becoming adult smokers. In addition, the money collected from this tax -- which is levied only on smokers -- will benefit the fight to save lives through cancer research.

At Stand Up To Cancer, we think that's a no-brainer. Please stand up with us on June 5 and vote "yes" on 29.

If you're still skeptical, here's a primer to help you tease out the facts from the propaganda on the issues of this unnecessarily complicated bill.

Prop 29 Fact or Propaganda?

No. 1: "The research money will go out of state."

Propaganda. The funds from Prop 29 will be administered by a committee of 11 California doctors. Why would they send the funds out of state? Prop 29's language is clear: tobacco tax revenue must be spent in California.

It is true that the bill does not specifically exclude researchers from collaborating on funded research with other cancer research institutions, and for good reason. According to state leader Don Perata, one of the originators of the bill, it would be silly to include such a clause: "Why should a pinhead like me tell one of these great [California] institutions that it can't collaborate with someone? We want the best and the brightest to be able to work together."

No. 2: "The money won't go to cancer treatment."

Fact. But that's because the measure isn't designed to put money into treatment, Prop 29 is designed to put money into much needed cancer research, which will ultimately result in more effective treatments.

No. 3: "The medical community is against it."

Propaganda. California is full of actors willing to lie for a paycheck and they are the ones putting on lab coats in the new Prop 29 ads.

Big Tobacco has also paid for other anti Prop 29 ads featuring Dr. LaDonna Porter, someone who has been featured in other campaigns paid for by Big Tobacco in the past. To learn more about Dr. Porter and the questionable distortions in her ads, watch and share this video.

The fact is that 35,000 doctors of the Californian Medical Association Support Prop 29. In addition to that, physicians and medical researchers overwhelmingly support this initiative.

No. 4 "In New York, the tax alone, per pack, is greater than the cost of a pack of cigarettes in California."

Fact. At 87 cents a pack California's tobacco tax is currently one of the lowest in the nation and has remained untouched since 1998. The addition of a $1 tax per pack will still make cigarettes in California less expensive than states such as New York.

No. 5 "The money raised won't support other programs."

Fact. This money will support life saving research for the diseases that smoking and tobacco products cause. This seems to us at Stand Up To Cancer to be exactly the right kind of way to spend money generated from a product that kills an estimated 5 million people a year.
