Zoopy, a Jack Russell terrier, is born far more brilliant and beautiful than any other dog. Zoopy lives with Tom and Beth, two humans, on a cattle ranch in Texas. Zoopy is so smart she becomes the Head Canine in Charge and rules the ranch. She is able to converse with all beings, she understands everything, and learns from watching television ? shows such as Boston Legal and Dancing with the Stars and Magnum P.I. Zoopy loves questions and figuring out the answers. She decides she is a detective and will solve mysteries.
?Freddy and Farty Fish grew weary of such a question; after all, Zoopy was asking them questions about one of their biggest dangers, their most terrifying nightmare.?
Good children?s stories have characters to which children can relate and, generally speaking, have children in them. This book has none. The main character is a completely unrealistic dog that fetches beer for her master and ruins the ranch, yet is treated as a hero. Animals eat cupcakes and Twinkies and such things that would ruin their health. An entire chapter is devoted to a story about aliens in order to explain why a fish is named Farty, which the authors seem to think is funny. It is not. This is a terrible example of writing for children. The best thing about it is that it is short.
