Important: Everyday Math - Howe - Dearborn Public Schools

Dear Parents,

Dearborn Public Schools is introducing a new math program this year. We are still using Everyday Math; however there will be several new elements to the program. The biggest change is that there will be a new computer element to the program. Each child will have a computer log in code. They will be using this at school and at home. Since most of the material is available on the computer, students will not be doing as much paperwork.? There will be more of a Montessori approach to learning math through hands-on activities and games.? You will probably not see a Home Link paper coming home each night, these will be replaced with engaging games and activities to practice the concepts learned during class at home.? Since every child will have access to an online version of the math book there is no longer a need for each child to have a paper one.

The computer code will give your child access to Family Letters explaining the objectives of the unit and provides the answers to the Home Links when they are assigned, the Interactive Student Journal (Grades K-2) or Student Reference Book (Grades 3-5), Do Anytime Activities (fun activities to reinforce concepts). There is also a games section to practice facts and computations skills. In addition, there are Skill Builder and Challenge Games. The games section shows the student how well they scored on each section, so they are able to see their progress over time.

There is also a Parent Portal section that allows the parent to see the scope and sequence of the entire year or a specific unit.? It offers sections for Home Link help, vocabulary, Understanding Everyday Math, additional links to helpful information and Games.

We are very excited about our new program. The Everyday Math website offers a wealth of information and resources for the students. We look forward to an exciting and engaging year.

On Wednesday, you will receive your child?s individual login for the Everyday Math Online. To get to the website go to www.everydaymathonline.com, then type in their username login and password from the attached card. When your child is logged in, the website will show all the available activities for the lesson that was taught that day.? They will also have access to other games and activities that work on other skills. Your child?s teacher will assign certain activities for each day.

Sincerely,

Dr. Tynan
